REVIEW by BINA SHARIF "Now is the winter of our discontent." It's not what you think. It's not by Shakespeare except the opening line, but we knew that. It is an experimental, short performance piece. At least that's how I would define it but art has no real definition and it's a good idea to take off and exercise your imagination and for that reason it's a handsome piece.

and authority. He is a soldier with scoliosis and ambition. In the very beginning I felt his speech was slurred and slow especially when he spoke English and I assumed it's because of his disability but when he spoke Spanish it was very fluent. So the difference must be because the actor made a choice. Unfortunately I don't understand Spanish and felt frustrated and because of that I missed quite a bit. Some of the lines such as, "History is war." "I am an anonymous murderer." "God is full of shit." are powerful. Jane Ives who plays the mother is a strong actress and the chorus who creates music on stage by clapping and stomping their feet are also effective. The sounds of drums make a good atmosphere of battle going on. Lighting design is very good. I wish it was a longer piece and I understood Spanish a bit more. MIXED EVA HEINEMANN'S RESPONSE Maybe, because I was wearing earphones I had no trouble with the English. It came out very clear. In fact it almost had a musical quality to it. Of course when Bruno Giraldi spoke Spanish, he became more alive. The lighting was very dramatic and I agree with Bina that the dancing was really wonderful as well as the actress who played the mother. Also contributing to the drama was the drumming. It was nice to see the performance on stage and not the zoom presentation. Like Bina though I don't speak Spanish and without subtitles I had no idea what was going on. I wasn't expecting Shakespeare but I was expecting the historical account of Richard III which may have occured while he was talking in Spanish. This is hard to review because of not knowing Spanish, I still found it rather intriguing because Bruno is a very charismatic actor.
